Give bullying zero tolerance

The best way to address bullying is to stop it before it starts. There are many steps faculty can put in place to reduce bullying.

Create a mission statement, code of conduct, school-wide rules, and a bullying reporting system to name a few. These establish an environment in which bullying is not acceptable.

Reporting bullying can be difficult. The victim often feels like this will make them more of a target, so always handle a bullying report very carefully.

Paying attention to your surroundings at all times prepares you for the the unexpected.

Cyberbullying

Hiding behind a computer doesn't make bullying okay

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology.

Examples of cyberbullying include mean and hurtful text messages, e-mails, social media posts, and more. They can be direct or indirect, and can escalate to extreme levels.

It's important to report cyberbullying. While the victim may fear this will make them more of a target, there are different ways to report without encouraging the bully.
